Lee Kang Wook

Invisible Space

Lee Kang Wook redefines the materiality of the pictorial plane through a new approach to painting. Using grains of rice, lines, and geometry, he investigates the visual structures preceding images, asking not what painting shows, but how it is seen.

Writings

Criticisms Lee Kang Wook's "Phases" Neutralizing His Art Lee Kang Wook's paintings are ornamental and, when lit, glitter brightly like gems. His painting is tender and slightly pale in its pastel tones, provoking a feeling of coldness. The sensuous, sinuous lines congregate at one point and then spread out all of a sudden. Its imagery as a whole is tidy, orderly and urban, yet also feminine. 2005
Criticisms The Storied Space of New Abstract Painting Lee Kang Wook had studied painting in Korea and the United Kingdom and has been presenting about 10 solo exhibitions in Korea and abroad. He traveled to the United Kingdom in 2008 and since then, 2016
Criticisms The Passion for Painterly Monads of Open Potential : On the Occasion of Lee Kang Wook’s Exhibition,《1mm Border》at Place C Delicately drawn lines and pale coloured patches are floating on the surface of paintings. Oval and rectangular forms are emerging in different sizes and at times are incomplete, just suggestive enough of these forms, and at other times overlapping each other as if repeating itself in spatial successions. 2025.03.03
Criticisms Double Negation: Lee Kang Wook’s Recent Paintings Delicately drawn lines and pale coloured patches are floating on the surface of paintings. Oval and rectangular forms are emerging in different sizes and at times are incomplete, just suggestive enough of these forms, and at other times overlapping each other as if repeating itself in spatial successions. 2020.08.12
